Founded in 1966, Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre (ASGT) is an outdoor community theatre in the heart of historic Annapolis. Each year from Memorial Day to Labor Day, we produce a season of “theatre under the stars” featuring Broadway-style musicals and family-friendly shows. All performances take place at our unique and historic outdoor setting, formerly known as Shaw’s Blacksmith Shop, which dates back to around 1800.
ASGT is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff. We rely on your patronage, volunteerism, and charitable support to fulfill our mission: To provide opportunities for the community to learn about and experience live theatre under the stars.
As we enter our 49th consecutive season in 2014, we have much to celebrate.
ASGT has been honored by the Ruby Griffith Awards in recent years, winning the prestigious Award for All-Around Production Excellence for 2007’s Urinetown, Outstanding Achievement in a Musical (2012's Avenue Q), and Runner-Up for Outstanding Achievement in a Musical (2010’s …Spelling Bee and 2011’s Hairspray).
We have also been honored with local reader's choice awards, including Maryland Theatre Guide's 2013 Reader's Choice Award for Best Musical (2013's Into the Woods) and Bay Weekly's 2012 Best of the Bay Award for Best Theatrical Production (2012's Avenue Q). ASGT was voted Best Theater Company in The Capital newspaper's 2014 Reader's Choice Awards.
And thanks to the generosity of our Supporting Cast of donors, the Maryland General Assembly, and the City of Annapolis, we have completed the first phase of our Stage/2 building restoration project.
