Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre was founded in 1966 by a dedicated group of arts enthusiasts. 
Its mission was not only to bring fine summer entertainment to Annapolis but also to play a role in the rejuvenation of the downtown area.  The founders had been active with other local theatre and arts organizations and wanted to form a group that would perform in the summer when other groups were, generally, on hiatus.  One important benefit of this plan was to give college students at home for the summer an opportunity to perform alongside seasoned actors or ply their production skills.
