What I saw in about an hour of rehearsal convinced me that this will be among the strongest ASGT opening shows of any season.

ASGT's 2011 season will open with "Chicago: The Musical." Last produced at ASGT in 1992, "Chicago" is a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz. Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, the story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice, and the concept of the "celebrity criminal." It features one show-stopping song after another and has been honored with 6 Tony Awards®, 2 Olivier Awards®, a Grammy® and thousands of standing ovations.
Whether you're looking for your first musical theatre experience, whether you've seen the Academy Award®-winning film and want to experience the show live on stage, or whether you've seen it before and want to recapture the magic, "Chicago" always delivers.
Music by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse.
Taavon Gamble
Taavon Gamble (Director/Choreographer of Chicago) is thrilled to be joining Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre this season with Kander & Ebb's Chicago. This Baltimore native is excited to return to his home state to work on one of Fosse's greatest shows. Over the years he has been lucky to work alongside and learn from Fosse dancers who have graced the stages of the original production of Chicago and the current running Broadway revival. Through an array of classes, workshops, and seminars from such known Fosse dancers as Ann Reinking, Ken Alan, Rachelle Rak, and others he has found such joy in the work of Fosse. On the creative side he has enjoyed work on Seussical, Oklahoma!, A Chorus Line, The Wizard of Oz, The Music Man, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, and more. As an actor he had the pleasure of touring in the national tour of Seussical as a Wickersham. Select regional credits include: The Full Monty, Candide, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Joseph, Cats, 42nd Street, Beauty and the Beast, Aida, Footloose, and the original cast of the musical The Tuesday Afternoon Regulars. Workshops: The River's Current, Streets of America, and The Family. TV/Film: The Kill Point, American Eagle's Threads and commercial work. Taavon is also featured in Jewel Elizabeth's pilates instructional video Rock Solid: Pilates. He's an Irene Ryan nominee and semi-finalist at The American College Theatre Festival. He's a proud member of Actors' Equity Association. Point Park grad. www.taavongamble.com
